We wrap our PRE tags with a div like this:

Copy Code
.ForumPostCode { margin: 0.5em 0px 0.5em 15px; width: 650px; overflow: auto; }

But we use fixed width. You'd have to consult some other CSS forums for more help with overflow if you are having trouble since that is outside the scope of this control.

Re: Setting the font

Resolution
Well that is how CSS works. We use SPANs to set font attributes so if you apply a global font-family to SPAN tags then it will be applied to anything we do. I would never recommend setting a global font-family/size on a SPAN tag in CSS. You should set the CSS font properties on things like BODY, TD, etc. instead, or SPANs but only ones with CSS class or id's.

Another thing is that our Style tags in the language definition files do let you set FontFamilyName and FontSize attributes there, which would likely override your CSS settings as-is.

Re: Is possible to hide or scroll the overflow?

Comment
Ok.
I've tried to set a fix width to the PRE, and then it works. I can see the scroll bars.
So, without setting a fix with, is there a way to show the scroll bars when the content is biger?
I'm trying to write a few chars in the same line, inside the control, and the result is the PRE gets bigger than the screen, in place of show the scroll bars o hide the overflow.
I've tried to set de overflow: scroll and overflow: hidden , in the CSS class used by the PRE control, unsuccessfully.
Maybe there is another way to change it... I hope it.
Thanks a lot!
If you set a default font to the SPAN html control in yous CSS style sheet, then you are not able to change the CodeHighlighter Control Font.
Maybe should be a way to set the font in the control regardless of the default font.
Cheers!

Re: Setting the font

Comment
Thanks a lot.
You are right, it should be something like this, but i'm trying to explain that is not easy to change by the "logical" ways.
No change with this:

Hi!
I have a very simple question... ¿How to change the font used in the control?
Is very nice that the font used, be the default font, but i need to change the font, and is being very difficult to change it!!
Nothing changes when I put all the control inside this TAGs: <font face="Courier New"> and </font>
I've tried with DIVs, and nothing...
I don't find any property to change in the control properties...
Just find, in the documentation, something like this XML syntax (to find in the documentation search "Style Tag"):

[XML] - Copy Code

<!--

After deeper investigation i found that it will be more useful to have client side functions for highlighting lines or pieces of code.
1. Select piece of code
2. Select line(s) it's a part of 1
3. Navigate to line
It is possible?
Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestions. No updates yet, however right now we are working on the next major version of our document/parsing engine as we develop our WPF version of SyntaxEditor. We are making a separate assembly that only does document/parsing functionality. So the next major version of CodeHighlighter will be using this updated assembly and we hope to add support for things like span indicators at that time.

Is tehere some news for this feature?
I need to highlight some lines of code with different background and i see that i will need additional HTML parsing. It's possible but i'm looking for more accurate solution.

I suggest the following. I can add to original source file a special tags. For examle:

[C#] - Copy Code

<!--

  void [CodeHighliter, Bacground=green]SomeFunction[/CodeHighliter](int someParam)
  {
  }

Background tells that background color should be changed to yellow,
VirtualSpace tells that line should be colored fully including virtual space.
Bookmark - it will be nice if CodeHighlighter will put bookmarks for needful lines of code for navigation
HTML - maybe for placing some marks to correct html after generating.

I assume that this needs some preprocessing and may be out of scope of SyntaxtEdit engine. But who know maybe it's not too hard to implement. It will be very appresiated!

I'm trying to finish our internal tool for analysing Crash Call Stack information, and will be good to have engine that can highlight problematic lines in code.
Also preprocessing can be replaced by additional API before generation. IOW acceptable is all, that can tell to CodeHighlighter how highlighting should be changed

BTW, Thanks for great product!

P.S. What about limiting code lines? I found post with this suggestion but i think this still in TODO also?

TIA,
Svyatoslav

Hi,

I'm using the code formatting library in a managed code application (Office Addin). The formatting is working fine (syntax coloring). I was wondering if there was anyway to have the engine handle reformatting indentation.

For example:
foreach (int i in method()) { Console.WriteLine(i); }

==>
...foreach (int i in method())
...{
......Console.WriteLine(i);
...}

Thanks,

[HTML] - Copy Code

<!--

     <%# Eval("Body") %>

The solution was to set the text using the property instead:

[HTML] - Copy Code

<!--

Setting the Text using the first method doesn't work for data bound values.
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but it works for me now.
Here is the part that is is referring to:

If you copy one of our dynamic language definition samples from the sample project for use in your project, you may encounter this error message when you load the language in your application:

An error occurred while loading the DynamicSyntaxLanguage '{Unknown}': The syntax language type 'TestApplication.[LanguageName]SyntaxLanguage, TestApplication' could not be loaded. The problem occurred near line 1, position 2 in Unknown Stream

What is happening here is that the root SyntaxLanguage tag in the XML language definition is specifying which code-behind class to use for outlining and other features. The XML files are configured to work with our TestApplication assembly. However it's a quick change to make a copy of them work with your project.

These two topics describe how to use the SyntaxLanguage tag's SyntaxLanguageTypeName attribute and what value you need to set to get it working with your project:

thanks for your reply.

For the most languages I have gotten it to work now using the following code:

[C#] - Copy Code

<!--

string text = "using System;\n\npublic class Program\n{\n}";
text = engine.GenerateHtmlInline(Guid.NewGuid().ToString(), text, language);

Anyway, there are languages where this approach does not work, e.g. C#. When trying to load the data from the XML file I always get an exception telling me:

{"An error occurred while loading the DynamicSyntaxLanguage '{Unknown}':\r\nThe syntax language type 'CodeHighlighterTest.CSharpDynamicSyntaxLanguage, CodeHighlighterTest' could not be loaded.  Please see the 'Troubleshooting' topic in the documentation for details on how to resolve this error.\r\nThe problem occurred near line 1, position 2\r\nin Unknown Stream."}

What is wrong with my code?

Thanks in advance,

Hi there,

I have got some questions regarding your CodeHighlighter component.

1. Do you have a working (!) example on how to use CodeHighlighter directly in code? In all examples I could find there is a method LoadFromXml on SyntaxLanguage type, but actually this method does not exist :-(

2. Do I have to deploy the .xml files, or is there a way to deploy only the .dll's?

Have a nice day,
