A feature that we've heard from our customer is to have the ability to magnetize windows. Once one window gets close to another window, it automatically gets stuck to it. This would be especially useful in both the MDI window and in the undocked state.

What sort of options would you like for this feature?

1. The ability to turn it on and off. Configurable by user
2. Strength of magnetism? Pixel distance when windows get stuck
3. If you move one window, all windows move along with it. Similar to group/ungroup. Configurable by user.
4. Save magnetism settings along with rest of settings.
5. I'm not sure if a window is magnetized should it just stick to the window or should it automatically be attached to it's nearest corner?

Do you have any additional suggestions?

Hi Anthony,

Good news... magnetism is implemented for the next maintenance release. The ability to prevent resizing on tool windows in a floating state is also included. This allows for tool window behavior similar to Photoshop.

Our implementation will align the corners of tool windows and if none are found will try to align edges. There are two properties, one is the distance at which magnetism takes effect and the other indicates the gap that snapped tool windows will be spaced apart. This way when the snap together you can tell it to keep a small gap between them.

As for the feature request of having them move as a group, I don't think we're going to do that. That same sort of feature can be achieved by simply docking two floating tool windows together in the same container. And if you did want to keep them floating and close to each other, it's very easy now with the magnetism enabled to move one and then quickly move the other one directly under it.

That's awesome. Will it work for windows in the MDI workspace too?

And of course the next question, when will the release be released?

Yes it will work for all undocked tool windows and any documents in standard MDI mode.

All the features are implemented and ready to go in regards to this feature. So it should be out relatively soon.
