Background script color does not show in 'merged' language

If you use a single language definition file that contains a parent and one or more child languages, the child languages no longer show up in a specified child background color. I can repro this in the sample app as well if I save the merged language file and replace the 'HTML' lex file. As soon as I switch back to discrete files (the default) the background coloring shows up normally again.
