While 0-255 makes sense for color selectors most graphics apps tend to present alpha from 0 - 100%. For most users I think it's more natural to specify 50% alpha compared to 128.

That's a good point. While I'm not sure we can add an option, I think we are going to just switch it to be a percentage-based input instead of 0..255. This will be in the next build.
