When a user selects New Vertical Tab Group within a docked document window, the new window position is about 20% the available space. I would like the split window to consume 50% of the available space. Does anyone know how I can override the default size?

When I tried this in our Docking/MDI demo, it ended up being about 50% of the space. Are you sure you're on the latest 2018.1 build? If not, please try it and see if that helps. If it still happens there, please tell us how to reproduce it in one of our samples. Thanks!
I downloaded and installed the latest version then re-tested. I confirmed the split window fills 50% of the available space in the latest version. Thank you for your prompt and accurate response.
