Hi
I discovered an issue related to drag & drop of floating Document windows.

Repro steps:

  • create two or more documents
  • undock all of them.
now you should have 3 independent windows: MainWindow(MW), DocumentA (A), DocumentB (B).
  • position all of them in such a way that MW is on the bottom of z-order, A & B are higher in z-order than MW.
Assure that all windows overlap somehow - you want to see z-order.
  • now start to drag A.
you dont have actually even to drag the window, it is enough that you click it and hold a mouse button pressed.
  • Observe the Bug: when you press a mouse, the z-order of windows changes, but it shouln't:
    • z-order before click: A , B , MW
    • z-order after click:    A, MW, B
  • Expected behaviour: z-order of windows shall stay unchanged when drag operation starts

The consequence of the issue is that it is very hard to drag A and drop it onto B, because immediattely when A is clicked MW is brought to the top and obscures all floating windows except one that is activelly dragged.

Other  important info:

  • The issue is fully reproducible in "SampleBrowser.Desktop" application.
  • I investigated a bit the behaviour of ActiPro and discovered that this effect is caused by Activating MainWindow when drag operation starts.
  • If you want I can send to you a Gif animation that present the issue.

Thanks for help!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for the excellent steps to help us reproduce what you discovered.  We can confirm this issue is only for Windows OS and was introduced by a separate z-order fix in v26.1.  We have adjusted the solution and verified both issues are resolved for the next release.
