Can I attain SpanIndicator' behaviour like changing DocumentLine.BackColor? So the syntax highlighting is not changed only background color?

Not right now... since you are returning a HighlightingStyle from the span indicator, it forces you to set a foreground color.

Currently it is not possible to specify Color.Empty or something else on a HighlightingStyle that makes sure the default color is preserved. Could this be changed in a next version?

Or is there maybe already antoher way to accomplish this?

That's on the TODO list for a future version. Unfortunately there is no way to do it right now.

Nevermind, I see that it works now. Thanks!

Yes that works in 3.1. In 4.0 though, we're adding a whole bunch of other new features for highlighting styles and span indicators as well.
