I am developing a plug-in for a 3rd party application. The application (a separate hosting process (.exe)) loads my plug-in at run-time. As I understand it, the license file needs to be embedded in the .exe . How can I use your library if I am developing a plug-in for a different application that I don't own/control?

Actually it should work ok if you have your license data embedded in a .dll that references our controls libraries too. So in your case, you'd just set up a licenses.licx file per the documentation for your project and everything should work.
