I'm having two problems with my evaluation
copy of Spider Writer.

1) IntelliPrompt for HTML tags - I can't get it to work!
It works perfectly with ASP, DHTML objects and Javascript - even with HTML attributes! - but when I press "<" (as the help file says) the tag list is not shown.
Any ideas?

2) Sometimes - not always - when I close Spider Writer it crashes with the following message:

SpiderWriter.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x01bf2f88" referenced memory at "0x04fc3250". The memory could not be "read".

This is followed by:

Runtime error 216 at 00002f88

Does anybody know what's going wrong?
I've tried to reproduce the problem, but unfortunately my 30 uses for the evaluation copy are running out...
I'm using Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6, and Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1.

Thanks in advance - I hope to throw away my copy of Homesite and start using Spider Writer as soon as possible!

Bruno,

1) That is bizarre that the tags don't show but everything else does. It works fine on all of the versions we have here. You didn't modify anything with the Syntax Editor, did you?

2) That crashing definitely shouldn't be happening. I don't know what I can do for you in that situation unless you can come up with a set of steps that always causes it to occur.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

The second problem is probably being caused by a crack that is used to get around the registration. I have heard of similar problems happening when using the crack.

Of course I wasn't using a crack: I'm not a thief. <IMG SRC="mad.gif" border="0">

I was simply using the trial version, but because of these two bugs I'm still using my original copy of Homesite...

Sorry! I didn't mean to accuse you. I was just pointing out that I have heard of similar issues happening when a cracked version is used.

I was actually trying to point ActiPro in the right direction and didn't realize it sounded accusatory. I apologize.

Hey!

I just downloaded the trial version! Let me say, I am impressed! It's a very cool editor! Anyways, I am having the same problem with the "intelliPrompt" feature. The drop-down list appears when i type "&lt;/" but not when i type "&lt;". Other than that, it seems like an awesome editor! I really like the color-picker, and the "tag-attributes". Also, the "Design" mode seems like it would make creating the actual content of my pages easier.....ie, writing. Awesome job! Once the issues with the "intelliPrompt" are worked out...i plan on purchasing the software.

Chris,

Thanks for the praise. I just tried 5.2 here on my Windows XP box and IntelliPrompt is working for both &lt; and for &lt;/. It is the same version you have.

Thanks for the quick response! Anyways, forgot to mention I'm running Windows ME. I have a soundcard that doesn't have driver support for XP......so I'm stuck. :-( I will try to re-install, and maybe play around and see if I can find why it's acting this way.

Hey!

So, I spent the day testing out Spider Writer on my different comps to see if I could get IntelliPrompt to work. I tested on WinXP Home, Win 98 2nd Edition, and Win Me..... I couldn't get the IntelliPrompt to work on any! :-( Could it be a bug? Maybe there is another option I have to change? I tested it on Spans, Divs, Anchors, Tables, Table Rows, Table Cells. IntelliPrompt is turned on, and is set to "0.0" delay...which is the default. "Add End tags" is also clicked on. :-/ Hmm...I'm out of ideas. Other then that.........this is definitly one of my fav editors i've found so far!

Just me again!

Anyways, if I turn off intelliprompt on the editor source bar, then click it back on.........sometimes it will work when i type the "&lt;" character. But, it only works 1 out of 10 times i tried it.....and when it does work....it only works once.

Kinda wierd, since when i type "&lt;/" it works everytime! I also re-downloaded the evaluation copy to see if my version was different. But, same thing happened.

This is such a strange bug. I remember looking into it for Bruno (the original poster of this thread) and I couldn't get it to duplicate at all on our computers. Every install we've ever done here has worked as it is supposed to. So it makes it very difficult to debug. Thanks for all the testing. Let us know if you do find a pattern to when it will and will not work.

Hey!

Hmmm..that is odd! You would think that other users would bring the issue up if it really is a bug. Anyways, I will let u know if anything else happens with it. I am interested in helping out in any way that I can. I believe that Spider Writer is a GREAT editor! So I am willing to test, and promote the product any way I can. :0)

Bruno,

I had the same problem on NT with a registered version of Spider Writer. Nothing I tried fixed it. The problem went away when I loaded Windows 2000. Never found what caused the problem, but my experience leads me to believe that somehow Windows NT is involved.
