If I have a column guide specified and I have a sub-language (that is colored in light gray) the column guide disappears behind the sub-language coloring. Is it possible to keep this on top?

Good find... it looks like we are drawing column guides after the main text area background, but then later when drawing text line by line, if a background is specified (like in your situation with child languages), it overlays the column guides.

I'll add this to the TODO list to find a way to make column guides move above text line backgrounds but under text. It might be a little tricky.
