Is there any way to have the document windows stay on top of the main application window like the toolwindows do?

To clarify, I am talking about floating document windows.
Hi Russell,
In the Docking documentation, look at the "Docking Window Features / Floating Dock Hosts" topic's last section "Determining Which Floating Windows Show in the Windows TaskBar". It describes a property you can change to remove floating MDI dock hosts from the taskbar and make them "owned" by the main Window so they appear on top.
