ArgumentOutOfRangeException when using WPF DataGrid

Hi,

I'm getting an exception that shows Actipro in the stack. The exception is extremely difficult to reproduce, and contains no code from my application in the stack, so it's hard for me to nail down. My application is displaying the WPF DataGrid inside Actipro DockSites.

I won't be able to provide a sample app at this time. However, looking at the stack, perhaps there's something I can do to place a try/catch around a piece of Actipro code that may help. Perhaps I can hook into your TransitionPresenter?

Any other ideas?

Hi Greg,

Unfortunately, this is most likely an issue with the DataGrid and you'd have to post this on a Microsoft forum. There has been atleast 1 reported issue similar to this issue.

There is also a hotfix available for the .NET 4 version of the DataGrid, which may or may not help.

If you want to be able to add a try-catch, you can write a custom Decorator that overrides MeasureOverride, wrapping the base.MeasureOverride call in the try-catch. Then you'd host the DataGrid in your custom Decorator.

I have the same problem. With and without the hotfix. EnableColumnVirtualization property has no effects on the bug.

It seems to be a Microsoft bug but it seems to happen only when used into a DockSite. I wonder if the Docksite calls the sizing methods of the DataGrid in the standard way ??? Really not easy to track down. Also, after applying hotfix, it seems that I do not have acces to Microsoft code that  had previously.

I have one important question. Are you using a regular ObservableCollection or a MultiThreaded version of it?

Personnally, I'm using a multithreaded version of it.

I found a workaround in my case.

The problem arose only when I added items to an emtpy bounded collection after it already contains items (0 -> n -> 0 -> add() -> Exception).

Before adding items to my bounded collection, I set back the datacontext to null then to its previous value. Everything seems ok!

Hi Eric,

I'm glad you found a workaround. We are not doing any non-standard arranging/measuring, as it would not really be possible to do.

Thanks, you are certainly right. I only say that because everything I found about it (ony one) was also using ActiPro-DockSite and at first sight the problem seems to come from the sizing/arrangement of controls (but the other and me was using DockSite).

But, yes the bug is surely not related to ActiPro, only Microsoft (or perhaps me). But, I pretend it is Microsoft because of the workaround I found. It really sounds like a bad state in the virtualization data section.
